Why Barbados? With so many Caribbean islands to choose from you might be wondering what this British influenced island has to offer for your honeymoon or vacation getaway.

Perhaps feasting in some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean is important to you? If so, it would interest you to know that Barbados is the first and only Zagat rated Caribbean destination. It’s considered the “dining capital of the Caribbean”. One of the top 50 restaurants in the world is located in Barbados – “The Cliff”. There are many additional options to choose from. It is a perfect island for the “foodie” in you.

Visit historical sites and landmarks within a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating as far back as George Washington, Barbados has beautiful plantations, landscapes and buildings which can make lovely settings for those considering a destination wedding. With no waiting time to get married in Barbados, it sure beats Vegas!

Venture within the interior of the island and you will find beautiful green rolling hills and wildlife reserves where the green monkeys roam free.

Experience the Turtles!

To witness a turtle hatching has always been on my bucket list and Barbados fulfilled it just when I least expected it. The turtles love this island and they have favorite beaches they return to year after year.

While enjoying a beachfront dinner we were surprised by hundreds of baby turtles suddenly digging out from the sand and scurrying to the sea. Absolutely precious! They love their turtles here, so the turtle patrols quickly appear to assure they make it safely to their destination.

Another favorite turtle experience on the island is swimming with the turtles. Take a lunch cruise on a catamaran and dive in to see the turtles in their natural environment. They swim past you without a care in the world. One got so close I was able to touch its sleek smooth shell. Another check off my list – swimming with the turtles.

Golfers paradise galore! There are several challenging courses to choose from, ranging from the well-known (and pricey) courses at Sandy Lane Resort, to the more affordable options at Barbados Golf Club, Apes Hill Golf Club and the Royal Westmoreland Course. You could spend a week and experience a different course every couple of days. Let us plan a golf-getaway group for you and your golf buddies.

Visit the shops in the Chattal Village in Holetown, a personal favorite. The exterior of the stores are colorfully painted Bajan houses that are original to the Bajan style of living. View the array of local crafts, wares, jewelry and clothing. Many items are made only in Barbados.
And this island is a safe destination offering a friendly “Bajan” culture as well as a vibrant nightlife. You can easily venture off your resort by foot, rental car, taxi or even the local bus to shop, dine or visit local bars. I hopped on a bus by myself for about $2 to hit the shopping scene.
One of the main draws to Barbados is its collection of small coves of pink-white sand beaches, powder to the touch, and clear turquoise waters perfect for diving and snorkeling. Many resorts include the use of non-motorized water sports. Surfing is popular here. Uniquely located between both the calm Caribbean waters and the less predictable Atlantic Ocean, you can swim and surf 2 different seas in one day.
