Who has not dreamed of staying in an over water bungalow in Bora Bora, Tahiti? However, the 16-18 hours and multiple planes and connections to get there does not make it feasible or attractive for everyone. But hold on to your Sun Hat!
El Dorado Maroma Resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya has just introduced the first over water bungalows in the Caribbean. Flights are under 5 hrs nonstop from the northeast USA. And the cost of airfare to Mexico averaging $500-600pp sure beats the typical $1600+ pp that you pay to get to Tahiti.
Choices of Gourmet Dining
The over water bungalows, or “Palafitos” (a.k.a. stilt houses) as they are called in Mexico, are situated on beautiful Maroma Beach, which has been ranked by the Travel Channel as one of the top ten beaches in the world. The resort’s Gourmet Inclusive package includes all of your meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, taxes and hotel gratuities. And when they say gourmet, it means the six chef-inspired restaurants on property will offer you some of the best food you will experience within the all-inclusive properties in the region. No buffet lines to rush to as all the restaurants offer a la carte table service which also caters to special dietary needs.
This is an adults-only resort so forget about the kids. Totally unwind as you choose among the 4 bars and 3 pools on this property. And with butler service 24 hours a day you are truly pampered.
During my visit in December I was one of the first travel advisors to step inside the first completed over water bungalows at El Dorado Maroma: I can say it is truly phenomenal.
The only problem is that you might not want to leave your over-water villa! Each private over-the-Caribbean bungalow has aquarium glass floors, direct ladder access to the water, an indoor Jacuzzi and outdoor shower, oversized decks, and your own private infinity pool.
Your Private Paradise
The Over Water Ocean Grill and Wine Bar, which is the central hub of Palafitos, features 360-degree water views, classic Caribbean dishes and a glass-floored private dining room.
And the over water experience does not end there. They even have Náay Spa, the only over-the-water spa in Latin America that offers unique treatments based on traditional Mayan herbal practices.
We are taking reservations now for travel starting in September. There are only a limited number of these on property and they will sell out quickly!
